The Touareg is Volkswagen’s flagship SUV and has been a consistent success for them since it was introduced in 2003 as their first ever production off-roader.
The Touareg was the inauguration of Volkswagen’s now robust selection of SUVs so it has always been held in high regard by owners and fans alike. That’s why you should be excited that Volkswagen are launching an all-new Volkswagen Touareg that they claim sets the premium SUV benchmark sky-high.
With the new 2018 Volkswagen Touareg set to hit our dealership showroom this summer; we thought we’d take you through what’s new and different on the forthcoming elite SUV.
New Volkswagen Touareg 2018: Exterior
With the SUV market becoming increasingly more geared towards more aggressive looking models, Volkswagen claim the new Touareg is visually more considered to match market competitors. For example, it has a wider stance and a lower roofline than before which gives it a sportier looking posture on the road.
Elsewhere on the exterior of the Touareg, Volkswagen have implemented LED tail-lights that appear to wrap themselves around the tailgate helping to give off a unique futuristic look. Most noticeably though is the newly designed horizontally-slatted grille that shows off the 2018 Touareg’s new found visual energy.
New Volkswagen Touareg 2018: Interior
The most dramatic of changes to the Touareg comes prevalent on the inside with Volkswagen setting a new benchmark for quality and design in this class. Despite digitalised dashboards not being a new thing to SUVs, the new optional dual-screen Innovision Cockpit display is in a different class to anything else currently available in the range. What’s more, Volkswagen have integrated the dual-screen to look like a single pane of glass spanning across the dashboard from both the 12.3-inch digital dials and 15-inch central infotainment screen, so the overall set-up looks stunning.
Alongside its good looks, the usability is top draw too. With configurable menus and a tile based system that gives you the ability to drag and drop icons in to your preferred positions, the functionality takes Volkswagen’s already high regarded infotainment system up on to another level.
Materials used on the interior are also of the finest quality as you’ll find an abundance of leather, premium metals and high quality gloss plastics scattered around the cabin. There’s no tacky feel to the inside and you’ll find that everything you touch feels as if it’s been built to last forever.
New Volkswagen Touareg 2018: Engine and Performance
Volkswagen are launching the new Touareg with a choice of two powerful V6 diesel engines, one having 228bhp and the other 282bhp. Further down the timeline you’ll also be able to choose from a six-cylinder petrol engine, a V8 diesel and also a plug-in hybrid, however the hybrid hasn’t been confirmed for a European release yet.
